We have the pleasure to welcome the artists Laura Beloff and Erich Berger to our next iltama.
***Laura Beloff will introduce her latest projects and tell us more about "wearables as an artistic strategy". Most of her recent works focus on mobile art and wearables. They can be considered conceptual, while being at the same time characterized by physical instantiation (as objects). Technological and often networked structures form the core of her works, which function in real time and (commonly) in real life.
Laura Beloff is a media artist born in Finland. Her pieces in recent years have developed into participatory and networked installations, as well as portable, wearable objects, reflecting on our increasingly mobile and technologically enhanced society. Her works re-examine private and public relationships to art and the presence of the individual in a globally networked world. Many of her works are collaborations with other artists, musicians and programmers. Beloff has exhibited widely in various exhibitions, museums, galleries and major media art festivals in Europe and worldwide. She has an education in new media and critical studies (MFA 1998; California Institute of The Arts, U.S.) and photography (MFA 1995; University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland). She has received various grants, residencies and awards; Ars Electronica -Futurelab residency 1999-00/Austria, Fulbright-grant/U.S., Air-residency 2001 /Vienna, 3-year artist grant/Finland, 2002 Vida5.0 honorary mention/Spain, 2000 File-festival the 3rd prize/Brazil, etc. 1999 (-00) she was a visiting guest Professor at the Art University in Linz, Austria. 2002-2006 she was a full Professor for media arts at the Art Academy in Oslo, Norway. She is awarded a 5-year grant by the Finnish state (Central Art Comission) 2007. Currently she is working towards PhD within Planetary Collegium, The Centre for Advanced Inquiry in the Interactive Arts (MPHIL/PHD Computing, Communications & Electronics, University of Plymouth, Faculty of technology).
More information on her works and CV can be found at:

***Erich Berger will present his recent and upcoming projects
Erich Berger is an artist and independent researcher born in Austria. He currently lives and works in Porvoo/Finland. Berger is a master of the obscure interface. With a background in communication engineering and philosophy, it should perhaps not come as a surprise that he is interested in paradoxes. In projects like "Spinne" and "Seven Mile Boots" he has explored physical interfaces as ambient spatial or wearable components. With his duo TERMINALBEACH Berger started to work with audio visual performance. His fascination for mathematical structures is obvious in his visual language. His collaborators include artists like Laura Beloff, Martin Pichlmair, and PURE. Berger directed the "Making Sense" project -physical computing for artistic purpose- and was the artistic director of the "Interface and Society" conference and exhibition at Atelier Nord in Oslo.
