Food during Camp Pixelache

Screen shot 2014-05-26 at 16.05.47
Visitors to Camp Pixelache on Vartiosaari island should generally bring their own food & drinks, eating utensils and picnic equipment to the island. There is no infrastructure (shops, restaurants, cafes, etc) on Vartiosaari so everything that you would like to eat / drink should be brought along. The island has a few water taps for drinking water. You will be responsible to take all your waste materials off the island with you.

Pixelache is able to provide catering only for a limited amount of participants and we are unfortunately already fully booked.

Newcomers to Helsinki:

If you are visiting Helsinki from elsewhere, we recommend that you do your food shopping at Hakaniemi (e.g. before taking ferry), or at the K-Market next to Herttoniemi metro-station (if taking metro route).

In Hakaniemi, there is S-Market (address: Siltasaarenkatu 6-10) is a large supermarket open from 7-18 on Saturday. There is also the indoor market hall (Hakaniemen kauppahalli) and outdoor farmers market at Hakaniemi square (Hakaniemen tori) from 8- on Saturday.

In Herttoniemi, the K-Market (address: Hiihtäjäntie 2) is a large supermarket open until 21 on Friday evening, from 07-18 on Saturday.

Large supermarkets around the Central Railway Station area are open until 22 on Saturday & Sunday.

Note: Sunday 8th is Pentecost / Whit Sunday and is a public holiday in Finland. Many of the food stores will be closed, except those around the Central Railway Station area. So best shop on Saturday!
